Yes. We start with a code review and risk map of the existing code base, then maintain and extend it over the product’s lifetime, as we’ve done for Danfoss MCT 10 for more than 16 years.
Usually not. We assess the business impact first, fix what’s urgent, upgrade what’s worth upgrading and rebuild only where it pays off.
Hidden dependencies on how the old hardware behaved. Software can rely on timing or idle behaviour nobody documented. A faster processor can expose a bug that was always there but never triggered on the old chip. That’s why we test old and new behaviour side by side under real operating conditions before switching over.
By understanding what the old system actually does before deciding what to change. In tightly coupled systems, logic that looks wrong may be supporting something elsewhere. We preserve what users and data depend on, change questionable behaviour deliberately, and plan for verification to take as much effort as the code itself.
