Differentiating adjustable beds through smarter control

LINAK A/S is a global manufacturer of electric linear actuator systems used in applications ranging from healthcare equipment to industrial automation and comfort furniture. Many premium adjustable beds rely on LINAK motor units and control systems.

As competition in the adjustable bed market increased, LINAK wanted to help its customers differentiate their products through improved user interfaces and customization. While traditional wireless remotes already controlled bed positioning, the handset remained the most visible part of the product experience.

LINAK aimed to extend this experience by allowing users to control their beds through smartphones and tablets, offering more flexibility, customization options, and a more modern user interface.

Connected control for adjustable bed actuator systems

Proekspert partnered with LINAK to design and develop a mobile control solution that connects smartphones and tablets to adjustable beds powered by LINAK actuator systems.

The project combined mobile application development, embedded systems, and wireless communication hardware to ensure reliable interaction between the device and the bed control system.

Key responsibilities and deliverables:

  • Development of an iOS application for controlling adjustable beds
  • Integration between mobile devices and actuator systems via Bluetooth
  • Embedded firmware and hardware integration with the LIN bus control system
  • Design of the Bluetooth communication module connecting the bed and the app
  • User experience design ensuring intuitive and reliable control
  • Handling complex control scenarios such as simultaneous commands from multiple controllers

The result was a connected control system that allows users to adjust their beds from smartphones or tablets while maintaining compatibility with traditional remote controls.

A modern user interface for adjustable beds

With the mobile app integrated into its product portfolio, LINAK expanded the ways users interact with adjustable beds powered by its actuator systems.

Customers can now control bed positioning from mobile devices, offering additional convenience and customization options compared with traditional handsets. The solution also supports advanced scenarios such as multiple users interacting with the same bed through different control interfaces.

The app became part of LINAK’s product offering and enabled further customization projects for LINAK customers.
